Women’s Month Talks at DFA

As March is Women’s Month, the Department of Foreign Affairs and other government agencies have been quite busy with a wide menu of Gender and Development-related events and talks. Among these are two Project Urduha initiatives: A talk on Red Flags in Relationships and Preventing VAWC last Friday, 22 March 2024; and a talk on Combatting Cybercrime and VAWC on Tuesday, 26 March 2024.

On 22 March 2024, Ms. Marjorie Brioso Gomez, Resident Counselor of Amara Counseling and Training Center gave a talk on Red Flags in Relationships and Preventing VAWC. She enumerated over a dozen red flags such as gaslighting, narcissism, poor anger management, and controlling behavior. She also explained six warning signs of dating violence. About 80 participants via zoom and face to face attended the lecture.

On Tuesday, 26 March 2024, Police Major Deseo of the Women and Children Protection Center of the PNP delivered a talk on Cybercrime against Women and Children. Online sexual exploitation of children was identified as a problem in the Philippines, and the measures taken to counter this were discussed. About 90-100 people attended in person and via zoom.
